Huawei LUNA2000 Battery UK
Huawei LUNA2000 Battery UK 2026: Discontinued? Specs, Warranty & Best Alternatives
The short version
You can no longer buy a new Huawei LUNA2000 through UK distribution. Huawei told UK distributors in September 2025 that its residential battery range would end locally by the close of the year, and since January 2026 new units have not been available. There is no live UK price, and we don’t recommend hunting for one.
If you already own one, you are not stranded. Trade reports say existing warranties are being honoured, and Huawei’s UK security-support period runs to 31 December 2029. The hardware is still sound: modular LFP, outdoor-rated, 50 kg modules. The weak spots are Huawei-only lock-in, patchy module availability and an uncertain long-term service network. Buying today? Shortlist Fox ESS, Powerwall 3, BYD, Sigenergy or Enphase instead.
Search for the Huawei LUNA2000 in the UK and most pages still read as if it is on the shelf. It isn’t, and a battery you can’t buy new is a different article from one you can. We checked this guide against Huawei’s datasheets and UK compliance paperwork, trade reporting and our own Huawei SUN2000 inverter review. It covers what happened, what you have if you own one, and what to buy instead.
Is the Huawei LUNA2000 still sold in the UK?
Not new, through UK distribution. This is the timeline as far as we can establish it:
| When | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| September 2025 | Huawei tells UK distributors its residential battery range will end locally by the close of 2025. Trade sources say stock will be cleared, existing warranties honoured, and distributors can no longer sell extended warranties. Huawei declined to comment officially. | The Register |
| January 2026 | Huawei residential inverters, LUNA2000 batteries, optimisers and accessories are no longer available new through UK distributors. | Our SUN2000 review |
| October 2026 | Huawei’s global FusionSolar site lists country sites across Europe, including Ireland, but none for the UK. Its newest residential battery is the S1 family. | Huawei, checked 10 Oct 2026 |
The original trade report described the battery line. Later UK coverage, and our SUN2000 review, describe the exit as covering the whole residential range. Surplus stock may still surface with resellers, but we can’t verify any UK supply. Before paying for a unit, get the serial number and written confirmation that the Huawei warranty applies.
LUNA2000 S0 vs S1: what you actually have
A LUNA2000 is a tower: a 12 kg power module on top and one to three lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery modules beneath, floor-standing or wall-mounted. It is outdoor-rated, and Huawei quotes under 29 dB at 1 m. It talks only to Huawei SUN2000 inverters, which gives one app (FusionSolar) and one warranty relationship inside a Huawei system, and nothing to talk to outside one.
| LUNA2000-S0 (5 kWh modules) | LUNA2000-S1 (7 kWh modules) | |
|---|---|---|
| Module size | 5 kWh (LUNA2000-5-E0) | 6.9 kWh, marketed as 7 kWh; Huawei has since added a 5 kWh pack |
| Tower sizes | 5, 10 or 15 kWh; up to 30 kWh with two towers | 5 to 21 kWh in nine steps |
| Max output | 2.5 / 5 / 5 kW (peak 3.5 / 7 / 7 kW for 10 s) | 3.5 kW per module; 10.5 kW per tower |
| Protection | IP66 | IP66 |
| Warranty (Huawei EEA terms) | 10 years, 60% usable energy at the end, throughput cap applies | 5 years basic; up to 15 years if connected to Huawei’s cloud and kept updated |
Three things to know. First, S0 gives its full 5 kWh per module in normal solar use, but Huawei’s datasheet sets a 15% minimum charge (4.25 kWh per module) when no PV is connected or no sunlight has been detected for 24 hours. Second, don’t assume S0 and S1 modules mix: they use different power modules (C0 and C1), so get compatibility in writing. Third, each S0 module weighs 50 kg (a 10 kWh tower is 113.8 kg), so survey access properly. Listings that mention an “S2” aren’t backed by Huawei’s current official product list.
Warranty and support after Huawei’s exit
Trade reports and our Huawei review say existing UK warranties stand and UK support continues. We found no formal UK announcement, so rely on your own paperwork. Huawei’s UK product-security statement sets a defined support period for security updates until 31 December 2029 and lists the UK-sold LUNA2000 modules and Backup Boxes. Under Huawei’s EEA terms, S1’s 15-year cover depends on the battery staying connected to Huawei’s cloud for firmware updates. UK terms may differ, so check yours against our warranty guide.
- Register the serials. Record every module and power-module serial and check them on Huawei’s warranty query page.
- Keep the paperwork. Invoice, MCS certificate and commissioning report are what a claim is judged on.
- Stay online. Keep FusionSolar connected and firmware current. If it drops, follow our inverter offline guide.
- Claim through your installer first. If they have folded, see what to do when an installer goes bust.
⚠️ The lock-in, stated plainly
A LUNA2000 only works with a Huawei SUN2000 inverter. If the inverter fails out of warranty, or you change brand, the battery doesn’t follow, and spare-part supply is the open question. GivEnergy is the cautionary tale: it entered administration on 9 April 2026 with no further hardware warranties honoured. A big brand isn’t automatically a safe one, because a warranty is only as good as whoever stands behind it. On security, our kill-switch guide found no public evidence of any UK home inverter being remotely disabled.
The backup power reality
A grid-tied battery shuts down with the grid by design, so outage cover needs extra hardware. Huawei’s UK paperwork lists the Backup Box-B0 (single-phase), Backup Box-B1 (three-phase) and SmartGuard-63A. That kit belongs to the same withdrawn range, so ask your installer about availability before you plan around it.
UK Power Networks reports that an average customer sees an interruption about once every 32 months, with rural overhead-line areas faring worse. Backup is insurance, not income. It earns its cost if medical equipment, a heat pump or home working makes outages expensive. See what happens to solar panels in a power cut.
Does a LUNA2000 still earn its keep? Flux, Agile and SEG
Self-consumption is the foundation. Our battery storage guide puts a typical solar home at 30–35% without a battery, about 70% with 5 kWh and 80–85% with 10 kWh on a smart tariff, against an Ofgem cap of 26.32p/kWh from 1 October 2026.
Flux (cheap import 02:00–05:00, peak 16:00–19:00) works through FusionSolar’s time-of-use mode. At up to 5 kW, a 10 kWh S0 tower fills in about two hours and a 15 kWh tower in about three, right at the edge of Flux’s three-hour window. The common 3.68 kW single-phase export limit, not the battery, usually caps peak export. Agile prices change daily, so you would set windows by hand or use a third-party control tool that supports Huawei. Huawei is listed in Octopus’s Intelligent Flux picker, but on 23 September 2026 that tariff was limited to Octopus-installed systems, so check your account.
Our Agile and Flux battery guide works the numbers: roughly £350–£550 a year on Agile and £280–£330 on Flux for a 10 kWh battery, before export income. Compare export tariffs in our SEG rate ranking.
Own a LUNA2000? Expand, keep or replace
| Your situation | Best move | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Works well and is the right size | Keep it. Stay online and keep the paperwork. | The 2029 date is a security-update commitment, not a lifespan limit. |
| Need more capacity | Ask your installer whether the right same-generation module can be sourced. Otherwise price an AC-coupled battery alongside (adding a battery guide). | New stock may not carry a Huawei warranty. Get it in writing. |
| Fault under warranty | Installer first, then Huawei’s warranty channel. | Have serials and the commissioning report to hand. |
| Out of warranty, or want to leave Huawei | Price a hybrid inverter plus battery together (inverter replacement guide). | Use an MCS installer and confirm export-limit paperwork. |
| Buying from scratch | Don’t buy a LUNA2000. See the alternatives below. | No UK distribution means no UK price or support route. |
Huawei LUNA2000 price UK 2026, and what replaces it
There is no live UK price for a new LUNA2000, so any “from £3,000” figure you’ve seen is a pre-exit quote. These are installed 2026 ranges for comparable batteries, drawn from our reviews. They are indicative, so get three MCS quotes.
| Battery | Capacity | Installed, 2026 | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fox ESS H3 | 5–20 kWh, LFP | 10 kWh about £4,800–£6,200; 5 kWh from about £3,450 | Best value for most homes |
| Tesla Powerwall 3 | 13.5 kWh, LFP, built-in inverter | From £7,499 | Larger homes, strong backup |
| BYD Battery-Box | 5–22 kWh modular, LFP | About £4,500–£7,000 | Open-protocol retrofit (manual on Flux and Agile) |
| Sigenergy SigenStor | 6–54 kWh modular | About £4,500–£9,600 for 6–18 kWh | All-in-one that starts small and expands |
| Enphase IQ Battery 5P | 5 kWh per unit | About £4,000–£5,500 per unit | AC-coupled retrofit to existing solar |
We’d avoid new GivEnergy hardware after its administration. Our best solar battery guide compares the wider field.
VAT: installing qualifying batteries, including standalone retrofits since 1 February 2024, is zero-rated until 31 March 2027 and 5% after. That is about £300 on a £6,000 job. Northern Ireland has had a matching zero rate since 1 May 2023 (legislation). Check your own saving with our VAT checker, and see the payback guide for how battery spend fits whole-system payback.
✅ Our verdict, in three lines
Own one? Keep it, protect the paperwork and stay online. Have a Huawei inverter and want storage? Ask your installer to price sourced modules against an AC-coupled battery against a full replacement, and don’t pay for stock without written warranty cover. Buying new? Skip the LUNA2000 and size 10 kWh for a typical 4 kWp family home: Fox ESS for value, Powerwall 3 for backup, BYD for open pairing, Sigenergy for expansion.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Huawei LUNA2000 battery still available in the UK in 2026?
Not new through UK distribution. Huawei told UK distributors in September 2025 that its residential battery range would end locally by the close of 2025, and since January 2026 new LUNA2000 units have not been available from UK distributors. Huawei’s global site lists country sites across Europe, including Ireland, but none for the UK. Surplus stock may surface with resellers, but we cannot verify any, so get the serial number and written confirmation of warranty cover before paying.
Is my Huawei LUNA2000 warranty still valid after Huawei left the UK?
According to trade reports and our Huawei SUN2000 review, yes: existing UK warranties stand and UK support continues, although we found no formal UK announcement. Huawei’s UK product-security statement also sets a support period for security updates until 31 December 2029. Keep your invoice, commissioning report and serial numbers, keep the system online, and contact your installer first if there is a fault.
Can I add another LUNA2000 module to my existing battery?
Only if your installer can still source the right module for your tower’s generation. The 5 kWh S0 modules and the S1 modules are different families with different power modules, so do not assume they mix. Get the exact part number and warranty position in writing. If modules cannot be sourced, an AC-coupled battery installed alongside is the usual alternative.
Can I use a Huawei LUNA2000 with a non-Huawei inverter?
Not practically. The LUNA2000 is designed to communicate only with Huawei SUN2000 inverters, so a Solis, Growatt, Sunsynk or Fox ESS system would need its inverter swapped too, which is rarely worth it. Open-protocol batteries such as BYD’s Battery-Box suit mixed-inverter systems, subject to the inverter’s compatibility list.
What is the difference between the LUNA2000 S0 and S1?
S0 (LUNA2000-5/10/15-S0) uses 5 kWh modules, up to three per tower, with 2.5 kW, 5 kW and 5 kW maximum output. S1 (LUNA2000-7/14/21-S1) uses 6.9 kWh modules, delivers 3.5 kW per module and up to 10.5 kW per tower, and Huawei has since added a 5 kWh pack to the S1 family. We found no S2 on Huawei’s official residential product list on 10 October 2026.
Does the Huawei LUNA2000 work with Octopus Flux and Agile?
Yes for existing owners, within limits. FusionSolar’s time-of-use mode schedules grid charging, which covers Flux’s fixed windows (cheap import 02:00 to 05:00, peak 16:00 to 19:00). Agile prices change every half hour, so you would set windows by hand or use a third-party control tool that supports Huawei. Huawei is in Octopus’s Intelligent Flux picker, but on 23 September 2026 that tariff was limited to Octopus-installed systems, so check your account.
What is the best alternative to the Huawei LUNA2000 in the UK?
It depends on your system. Fox ESS offers strong value (10 kWh roughly £4,800 to £6,200 installed), Tesla Powerwall 3 suits larger homes and backup (from about £7,499), BYD Battery-Box is the modular open-protocol choice, Sigenergy is an expandable all-in-one, and Enphase’s IQ Battery is the simplest AC-coupled retrofit. We would avoid buying new GivEnergy hardware after its April 2026 administration.
